Tuesday, October 28, 2008 - The Presidential candidate for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP), Nana Addo Dankwa Akuffo-Addo has promised Health workers across the length and breadth of the country of his readiness to review their remuneration and rural allowances, as well as retirement scheme.
He has also promised them free accommodation in order to improve the standard of health delivery in the country. He made the promise in a 8-page speech dubbed -”Building a Healthy Nation” at a press conference held at the Koforidua Regional Hospital, as part of his campaign tour to the Eastern Region last Monday. Prior to the press conference, the NPP leader, who was accompanied by some top brass of the party were conducted round some wards of the Hospital, including the children’s ward, obstetric, gynecology and prenatal wards by the Hospital Director, Dr. E.Apori Obeng, to interact with patients on admission. Addressing the gathering of mainly Health workers and party sympathizers, Nana Akuffo-Addo said in order to improve the standard of health delivery in the country, there was the need to improve conditions of services of health workers. Quoting from the British National Health Service Act of 1946, the NPP leader said no society could legitimately call itself civilized if a sick person is denied medical care because of lack of means, adding that society becomes more wholesome, serene and spiritually healthier when people have access to health care.
